Radio Mercury Awards Announce Christopher Smith, Brand Creative Group Head at The Richards Group, as the 2016 Chief Judge for the Radio Mercury Awards.

New York, New York – December 3, 2015 – The Radio Mercury Awards is pleased to announce Christopher Smith, Brand Creative Group Head at The Richards Group, as the 2016 Chief Judge for the 25th Annual Radio Mercury Awards Competition.

Since joining Dallas ad agency The Richards Group in 1999, Chris has written for clients including Motel 6, The Home Depot, Zales, Amstel Light, Red Lobster, H-E-B, QuikTrip, Central Market, and dozens more. Besides awards from the One Show, Effies, Clios and the London International Awards, he has won five Radio Mercury Awards as writer or creative director, including Best of Show. In July of 2015, he was named to Adweek magazine’s “Creative 100: America’s Most Inventive Talent in Marketing, Media and Tech.”

A frequent advertising judge, lecturer, and educator, Chris also moonlights as a professional improv comedian and emcee, has co-authored three books of trivia, and is a two-time Jeopardy! champion.

“I listen to a LOT of great radio from all over the world. And what continues to amaze me is how, despite radio being the oldest broadcast medium we have, brands and agencies keep finding ways to keep it fresh and surprising. It’s inspiring and humbling at the same time,” noted Chris. “While social and digital are getting a lot of attention, radio is quietly experiencing a kind of creative Golden Age.  It’s really fun to be a part of.  Motel 6, a brand I’ve now worked on for 15 years, won the very first Radio Mercury Grand Prize. So it’s even more gratifying to be the head judge on the 25th anniversary of that achievement.”

“25 years and over $3 million awarded is a big achievement; we felt that selecting Chris as our chief judge really brings this initiative full circle with a nod to our past but also a vision for the future,” stated Erica Farber, president and CEO of the Radio Advertising Bureau and chair of the Radio Creative Fund.

Award categories for the 2016 Radio Mercury Awards will be announced in December along with Call for Entry guidelines and deadlines.  For more information log onto www.radiomercuryawards.com.
