Alma DDB and FCB Chicago Take Top Spots as Finalist Leaders
The Coca-Cola Company Named 2016 Radio Marketer of the Year
May 5, 2016 — New York, NY – 101 radio spots and campaigns have made it to the finals of the 2016 Radio Mercury Awards, which honors outstanding radio created by advertising agencies, production companies, radio stations and students. Alma DDB and FCB Chicago lead this year’s entries throughout multiple categories. The Radio Marketer of the Year will be awarded to The Coca-Cola Company at the June 2nd awards event.
The 2016 finalists incorporate a wide range of small to large advertising agencies and radio stations alike, as well as national and regional advertisers from the automotive, consumer packaged goods, wine & spirits, entertainment, fast food, financial services, travel & tourism, telecommunications, cable and quick serve restaurant categories. Entries were judged on their creativity, originality and effective communication of a brand’s message.
“At the heart of a compelling and creative radio spot is storytelling,” said Chris Smith, brand creative group head, The Richards Group and chief judge for the 2016 Radio Mercury Awards. “These finalists moving to the next round all tell their stories in surprising ways that still deliver on their briefs.”

The stature of creative executions incorporated on this list, no matter the advertiser or market size is amazing,” noted Erica Farber, president and CEO of the Radio Advertising Bureau. “Building brand awareness and driving ROI, are radio’s best attributes, and all of these finalists creatively succeed on delivering that promise.”
The final round judging panel included Chief Judge Chris Smith, brand group creative head, The Richards Group; Wade Alger, senior vice president, group creative director, The Martin Agency; Jill Applebaum, creative director, The Barbarian Group; Mark Gross, executive vice president, executive creative director, DDB Chicago; Peter Kain, executive creative director, executive vice president, BBDO NY; Larissa Kirschner, vice president, creative director, Publicis North America; Chuck Rachford, executive creative director, Cossette; Marty Senn, chief creative officer; Carmichael Lynch, and Alvar Sunol, co-president, chief creative officer, Alma DDB.
